Public Health & Safety Coal Related High Priority Problems (Priority 1 & 2)

CHART 80% have yet to be reclaimed

Of the $8.5 billion of high priority coal related AML problems in the AML inventory, $6.6 billion, 78%, have yet to be reclaimed. The $8.5 billion includes $3.6 billion in Pennsylvania watershed costs. 

The unreclaimed high priority problems are quite concentrated in a few states. Eight states (Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Kansas, Virginia, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Illinois) account for 95 % of these problem costs.

Environmental Coal Related Problems (Priority 3)

Almost 83 percent of the $2.3 billion of coal related environmental problems in the AML inventory are not reclaimed. And this represents only a small part of the total problem as no systematic effort has been made to inventory these problems.
