{S9211} Mr. JACKSON. Mr. President, I ask the Chair to lay before the Senate a message from the House of Representatives on H.R. 2.

S9211 The PRESIDING OFFICER (Mr. MOYNIHAN) laid before the Senate a message from the House of Representatives announcing its disagreement to the amendment of the Senate to the bill (H.R. 2) to provide for the cooperation between the Secretary of the Interior and the States with respect to the regulation of surface coal mining operations, and the acquisition and reclamation of abandoned mines, and for other purposes, and requesting a conference with the Senate on the disagreeing votes of the two Houses thereon.

S9211 Mr. JACKSON. I move that the Senate insist upon its amendment and agree to the request of the House for a conference, and that the Chair be authorized to appoint the conferees on the part of the Senate.

S9211 The motion was agreed to; and the Presiding Officer appointed Mr. JACKSON, Mr. METCALF, Mr. METZENBAUM, Mr. BUMPERS, Mr. FORD, Mr. MATSUNAGA, Mr. HANSEN, Mr. HATFIELD, Mr. McCLURE, and Mr. BARTLETT conferees on the part of the Senate.
