                    OSM AWARDS TEXAS $1, 449, 116
      TO REGULATE SURFACE EFFECTS OF COAL MINING 


          The Interior Department's Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and

Enforcement (OSM) is providing Texas with $1, 449, 116 grant to help the 

state regulate the surface effects of coal mining. 

     The grant pays half of Texas' inspection and enforcement costs, 

including expenses for equipment, supplies and transportation.
