OSM FACT SHEET U.S. Department of the Interior Office of Surface Mining April 30, 1997 OSM AWARDS ALABAMA $325,000 GRANT TO FUND CLEAN STREAMS PROJECT The Interior Department's Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM) announced today that Alabama has been awarded a $325,000 grant to assist in funding the state's Cane Creek Abandoned Mine Land (AML) restoration project in Walker County. Cane Creek was selected as a pilot project for OSM's Appalachian Clean Streams Initiative in 1995. A tributary to Lost Creek and the Black Warrior River, Cane Creek is polluted by acid mine drainage from a both a 20-acre gob pile and deep mine portals. -DOI- NOTE: For additional information about the grant, contact William Guyette (334) 242-8265.
