OSM AWARDS MISSOURI $1,500,000 GRANT
FOR ABANDONED MINE LANDS PROGRAM

    The Interior Department's Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and
Enforcement (OSM) has awarded Missouri a $1,500,000 grant to fund the State's
abandoned mine line (AML) program.

    The grant money comes from the national Abandoned Mine Reclamation
Fund, which receives reclamation fees from active coal producers at the rate of 35›
per ton of surface mined coal and 15› per ton of coal mined underground.

    The $1,500,000 grant, plus $213,148 in funds carried over from previous
awards, makes $1,713,148 available to fund the Missouri AML program.
