                OSM AWARDS ILLINOIS $1,863,768 TO ASSIST
              IN REGULATING SURFACE EFFECTS OF COAL MINING
                                    
The Interior Department s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and
Enforcement (OSM) is providing Illinois a $1,863,768 grant to help the
state regulate the surface effects of coal mining.
The grant assists in paying half of Illinois  inspection and
enforcement costs, including equipment, supplies and transportation.
