OSM Director Joe Pizarchik MeetS
With Environmental Groups in Washington, D.C.

OSM Director Joe Pizarchik met with several interested environmental representatives in Washington, D.C. on Friday, January 15, 2010, to discuss OSM’s outlook on the disposal of coal combustion byproducts (CCBs), also known as coal waste or ‘fly ash.’ The meeting is part of Director Pizarchik’s intent to gather a wide range of input from interested parties before moving forward with any new policies. Below are just a few photos from the director’s office in the South Interior Building (select a photo to enlarge).

After the meeting, the activists expressed optimism about the director’s efforts. “We wanted to be heard about our concerns on mine filling and the progress of rulemaking here, and we appreciate Joe hearing our concerns,” said Eric Schaeffer from the Environmental Integrity Project. “It was a good meeting,” he continued.

“I think most people realize this is just the first step in a very long process to determine how to address a situation that will affect the public,” added Earthjustice representative Emily Enderle.
