OSMRE Director Meets With Petitioners Asking for Takeover of West Virginia State Regulatory Program

OSMRE Director Joe Pizarchik meeting with West Virginia Citizens for Real Enforcement

OSMRE Director Joe Pizarchik meeting with West Virginia Citizens for Real Enforcement, or WVCARE, in Washington, D.C. on February 27.

Director Joe Pizarchik met with members of the West Virginia Citizens for Real Enforcement, or WVCARE today, listening to the group's request that OSMRE again review its June 2013 petition asking the bureau to carry out an immediate takeover of the West Virginia state coal mining regulatory agency, or to remove the state agency's Federally approved program.

In December 2013, OSMRE announced it would carry out further detailed investigations on five of nineteen areas of concern submitted in the petition by WVCARE and other citizens groups. OSMRE has begin the initial work to carry out those detailed investigations, which are expected to take about two years to complete.
