Vision

The Office of Communications serves as informational leaders that drive OSMRE’s ideals, values, and mission through understandable and accessible means.

Mission

The Office of Communications supports the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act and the mission of OSMRE through professional engagement, the facilitation of communications between stakeholders and continues our reputation as communications leaders.

Responsibilities

The Office of Communications (OC) is responsible for disseminating information about OSMRE programs, policies, and actions to the public, Congress, State regulatory agencies, the coal industry, citizen groups, and the media. OC utilizes a range of communications tactics to share key information with stakeholders, and supports SMCRA and the mission of OSMRE. OC facilitates requests for information from the public, industry, and Congress and manages official Bureau correspondence. Additionally, OC coordinates OSMRE’s annual reclamation awards that recognize excellence in reclaiming active and abandoned mines.

OC plans, coordinates, produces, and distributes the following products:

  • Fact Sheets
  • News Releases
  • Reports and Publications
  • Stakeholder Outreach
  • Digital Communications
